There are plenty of carnivorous plant species. The most famous ones are venus flytrap, pitcher plants, and trumpets. But they mostly trap insect or small animals like frogs, they are not harmful to humans.
As well as this, they have evidence that some pitcher plants are designed (Kinabula) to catch small rodent droppings! There are around 630 carnivorous plant species known.
Don’t forget sundews – these grow in the wild in the UK, often in boggy marshy places. They catch insects that land on sticky pads and then can’t escape
The most up to date estimates say there are about 800 species of carnivorous plants. The most interesting part is that carnivorous plants have evolved 12 times independently!
The latest new carnivorous plant was reported two years ago in 2021 and I’m sure there are still more out there to describe!
