Ah that’s a tricky questions there has been so many things I have learned and I am still learning. I know now why and how roots grow downwards, I know how to make GM plants that glow under different wavelengths, I know the stages of pollen development and how you can mess this up. But general science I guess the biggest thing I didn’t know was that sometimes experiments go wrong or give unexpected data and that’s ok, you either have to try again and work out what went wrong or look at everything from a new angle and see what the data is telling you.

I was really interested to learn from Phil about a plant they are growing that makes super healthy oil in it’s seed. If you eat too much fatty food it’s bad for you, but some types of fat are essential for us and help our brains work. These types of oil are mostly found in fish, and we can’t get them from many other sources, but Phil has been growing a plant called Corn Gromwell that has these fish oils in it’s seeds and might be a good source of healthy fats for us in the future.

As a PhD student I am constantly learning new things. One of the main things has been learning a new computer language, so that I can analyse my data in an effective and accurate manner. I have also learnt how to construct my own machinery and troubleshoot equipment.
